Intramedullary nails are used in the treatment of long bones complicated multi-place fractures. These implants are placed in the bone marrow cavity. The purpose of these implants is to transfer loads occurring during everyday activity and to stabilize the bone fragments. Treatment with intramedullary nails allows quicker and full recovery without casting.
The goal of the project was to analyze a series of types of intramedullary nails used in treatment of long bones complicated fractures. The nail’s construction has been tested and optimized. Analyses were performed using numerical analysis (FEM) in conditions reflecting the actual loads generated by the human body in everyday activities.
