Intramedullary nails are used in the treatment of long bones complex fractures. These implants are placed in the bone marrow cavity. They are stabilizing bone fragments and transferring forces that occur during daily activities. Treatment with the use of intramedullary nails allows to avoid plaster casting. They also enable faster recovery.
As part of the project a series of intramedullary nails was analyzed. Implants have been tested and optimized thanks to the use of numerical analysis. Test conditions were reflecting the actual loads generated by the human body during everyday activities.
