Anatomical models

Anatomical models are of great help for veterinary specialist from field of surgery and orthopedics. They allow precise planning of complicated medical procedures. Anatomical models can also help doctor explain reasoning behind need for medical procedures to clients. Models of anatomical structures – both pathological and healthy – can serve for educational purposes.

We offer preoperative anatomical models based on medical imaging – CT scan – or pre-made STL model files. We prepare our models according to rigorous standards offering high quality of materials and manufacturing. In process of manufacturing we use various 3D printing techniques, witch allow us to offer technology best suited for our client individual needs.

In case of individually prepared models for medical procedure planning we consult whole process with medical professional, to offer most optimal technology and best model quality.

Deformity visualisation

Due to high level of mapping related to base CT scan our models are great visualization of anatomical deformations. They can provide great help in the process of surgical planning and make learning process easier.

Thanks to usage of state of the art manufacturing technology and high quality materials we can visualize even most complex medical cases. With usage of transparent materials we can illustrate inner strictures of various tissues.

Surgical rehearsal

Anatomical models are irreplaceable help during process of surgical planning and preparation for complicated procedures such as: corrective osteotomy, spinal surgeries or comminuted fractures of long bones (in case of witch getting optimal bone chip placement is crucial). Accurate operation planning and its practice allows shortening of overall surgery time by 30%.

Technical information

Model quality

The anatomical models we offer can be divided into 3 groups that are presented below.  Each group is characterized by used material, quality of the final product’s surface finish.

  • Basic quality: Anatomical models prepared in basic quality are great solution for surgeons who want to plan and practice the route of a surgery. The technology in which these models are created has an accuracy of approx. 0.2 mm. The used material is polystyrene.
  • High quality: Models of this quality are recommended as pre-surgery models and educational models. The materials used to produce high-quality models are polyamides. The technologies of producing this type of models allows to obtain an accuracy of up to approx. 0.1 mm.
  • Very high quality: The advantage of high-quality models is their transparency which makes the internal anatomical structures visible. The material used in this type of models is epoxy resin. The manufacturing technology has an accuracy of approx. 0.05 mm.

Price

The total cost of individual anatomical model preparation includes the processing of provided computed tomographty results and the 3D printing process. In the case of a model that is already available in our database, the price does not include the cost of CT results processing, but only the cost of model preparation.

The exact cost of 3D printing depends on the volume of the model, selected model quality and amount of purchased models. The examples of anatomical models prepared in different qualities with its sizes and prices are presented below.

In the case of individual models’ prices may vary according to how demanding is the processing of the provided CT results and the costs of the printout itself. The final price is determined after providing us with the DICOM file and choosing the available quality of the model preparation. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us.

How it works?

The overall model creation process follows according to the methodology described below:

  1. Contact with the customer
Tell us about your expectations and for what purposes you need the model (presurgery evaluation, education etc.). This will allow us to choose the 3D printing technology that will fully meet your expectations.
  2. Uploading a DICOM file
If you decide to prepare an individual model, please send us a DICOM file with information about your requirements for the model (what anatomical structures it should include, what you need it for).
  3. Individual valuation and determination of delivery time
On the basis of provided information, expectations in relation to the model, chosen quantity and whether it is a model from our base or individual, we prepare a valuation and determine the time of order completion. After acceptance by the customer, we move on to the production of the model.
  4. Preparation of models in 3D printing technology.
  5. Shipping to the customer.

How to order?

  1. Preparation of medical imaging results
Anatomical models are created and based on the results of computed tomography or magnetic resonance. The quality of the submitted examination results determines the quality of the model. The smaller the thickness of the slice, the higher the quality will have a final model (the ideal thickness of the slice is <1 mm). Another important matter is a study reconstruction using a reconstruction convolution kernel. For the bone models B30 and B40 reconstructions give the best results. The way of computer tomography examination performance is also crucial. If the radiation beam perpendicular to the patient’s body and the slices are thicker than 1 mm that can result in cutting the bone joint surfaces and compromise the accuracy of the anatomical model (this is especially important in the case of spine CT).
  2. Files Transfer
The images should be saved in the DICOM format and exported to a compressed folder in ZIP format. The folder should be sent via Dropbox and made available to office@cabiomede.com or sent to us via the WeTransferplatform.
Apart from submitting the file itself, client should send a message to the address office@cabiomede.comcontaining information defining a intended application of the model (educational, preparation for surgery, etc.), chosen quality of the model (low, medium, high), specification of anatomical structures that model should include, the amount of models ordered.
  3. Pricing and implementation time
We contact the customer within 24 hours of receiving the order. Each order is priced individually. The price and delivery time depend on the size of the model, the chosen technology and the amount of models ordered. After approval of the valuation received by the client, we proceed to the order.
  4. Preparation of the model
The models are prepared in 3D printing technologies, which are determined based on the client’s requirements as to the preferred quality of the model’s finish and its application.
  5. Delivery to the customer
Ready models are sent to the customer.
